Chook shed – bedding change.

I clean out their box’s every morning when Holly and I go down to let them out and change their bedding every couple of weeks.

100_4495Been doing chooks for about 10 years and have become paranoid about bird mites so I dust the bottom of the cleaned out box’s before putting in fresh hay.

Speckles – still trying to recover from EYP

Egg yolk peritonitis (EYP) is basically internal laying. We had to take her back to the vet last week for some more treatment and to have a implant injected into her chest – OMG

The implant releases hormone signals which prevent any more (soft) eggs from being laid, it is the secreting egg material which leads to egg peritonitis. Apparently the implant which costs $99 lasts about four months, Ruby had the same thing but she recovered with one course of antibiotics and did not need the implant. To add to all the stress and worry Speckles is moulting as well!

Speckles – back from bird vet!

I don’t think I posted that she’s been sick for the last few days and spent 2 nights at the The Melbourne Bird Veterinary Clinic in Scoresby. She’s got a little packet of pink pills and we have to watch her closely over the next 48 hours with food and water – and hope the antibiotics does the job.

Chester – browsing catalogues

Chester says: Just browsing through the latest Bunnings catalogue, I usually flick through to the garden plants section and eat those pages – yum.

He lives in a two story hutch that I built some years ago which is located in the downstairs entry foyer. This is a traffic bottleneck so he’s usually up to date with everyone and everything, if you want to know something – just ask him.
