With the smart valve setup and operating we can start making the actual door that will slide up and down inside a frame.
After rummaging through my limited timber supplies (so damn expensive these days) this should get us started.
Wi-Fi Chicken Door – Part 1
With regard to the morning egg laying ritual I am going to build a Wi-Fi enabled chook door opener, not the coop door but another automated door integrated into the chook run gate! so I can remotely let the girls (at separate times) access/exit the hen house – phew. Why… daylight saving has stuffed up my morning routine!
I am now letting the girls out about one hour before their egg laying time so I have to closely watch them on the cameras and gout out to let them in. Same again to let them out!
I am browsing Amazon looking for suitable wi-fi smart shut-off water valves (actuators) – compatible with Alexa.
This one looks good with a choice of two Android apps, checkout the video!

Completely removed everything that was there and replaced with a safety net, more specifically plastic barrier mesh.
The revised… or rather completely rebuilt cat stairwell safety solution.

After all the modifications the roost ended up a bit to low.
With the milder night the girls are doing more standing and ET noticed on camera that there was not enough head height for Ruby to fully stand.
The roost which was recessed into the box is now flush with the top edge to which I have added some timber edging to contain the bedding.
Last week I pressure washed the driveway, carport and front porch areas. As expected didn’t take long (next morning) for the poopers to poop on the concrete.
Walked around in circles thinking how to clean up and then went downstairs to the rumpus room that is full of stuff, it’s like a store room. Found a forgotten mop & bucket plus something that will suffice as a pooper scooper.
As posted yesterday before I can finish the last bit of pebble backfilling there’s some work to do inside the chook run – in that corner.
Today we need to do some work in the chook run. I have also changed my mind about that post – overkill.
Weather cleared nicely; was able to go out and do some more like back fill the drain with soil and back fill the top end of the PVC pipe with gravel.
I used that same thin piece of plywood as a dirt guard when filling and tamping down the soil.
