Balcony PC upgrade ?

Mulling over getting a new i7 tower to replace the Balcony PC which is a Scorptec E5200/G31M-SL2/4GB/GT210 about 8 years old. Meanwhile…we could jazz up the current one so ordered a Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8 GHz 3 MB Cache 1066 MHz FSB LGA 775 CPU Processor from a NSW eBay guy for $8.90. If this works out I’ll get a 120/250GB SSD and maybe do another CPU upgrade.

USB 3.0 PCI card

Computer playtime morning – waiting for the USB 3.0 card to arrive (ETA today) so decided to clean up the corner where Balcony PC sits on a cardboard box to the left of the desk – so pulled everything out to vacuum the area. Also took the side panel off the box and gave it a good vac as well, and double check that the sole PCIe x1 slot is vacant – it is. Not long after courier arrived so we installed the card and included drivers – all OK.

Windows 10 update killed my GPU driver

Checking today’s weather and screen went blank, then spinning circle followed by pop-up that GPU driver failed to start. Win10 is using generic – check for updates. Ran the Nvidia updater which offered to install the latest driver which is the same version as the one installed – that was replaced with a generic by Windows update !!!
