Garden pond annual maintenance – Part 1

Hmm…should have waited for a hotter day, that water is cold had to keep swapping hands 😒

Amazonic growth!
This year everything has gone mad with crazy growth!

Same for the pond plants that have an impressive root system so pull a lot of that for starters.

Pulling stuff out…

Pulling stuff out…

Pulling stuff out…

Bugger lost one of the suction feet off the pump, have to look for that.

We can now prepare to do the water exchange but first…

…we need to clean the sponge filter!

I’ll buy a new one but for now we’ll give this a clean so we can get the water exchange done.

To pump the water out the pump hose offcut from the initial installation is connected to the pump outlet.

Garden hose poked into rocks to hold it there and turn on tap – then turn on pump.

Now we just hang around and adjust garden tap as needed to maintain safe water level.

Keeping water away from top level because I want to do some weeding of that area later on today.

Starting to clear already let’s look for that suction foot.

Found it… yay.

About another 15 mins for the water exchange to complete so went inside for a coffee break and it looks like rain is on the way but that won’t effect this job 👍
