After cutting the Melamine wheels the next job is to make the flanges to mount the bearings.

The bearing flange (four of them) looks like this, the 6205 2RS bearing has a OD of 52 mm so I need a hole size a bit under that as the bearing must be a press fit. Currently the only hole saw set I have is cheap one from the market for $15. The set does have a 51 mm but I suspect it’s going to bore a hole that’s to large.

Yep…as you can see hole is way to big – no good.

Banking day today so dropped into Bunnings on the way back and purchased this CraftRight hole saw set. I zeroed in on this one because the usual hole saw with teeth all around tends to bore a larger hole for the specified size. This one looks good as there are just three cutters – fingers crossed.

Just finished drilling a test 51 mm hole…

Yes…that looks good – phew. I made the actual flanges from MDF as there is no grain to split which is what happened to one of them on the original 14” bandsaw.

To clean up the holes for a bearing press fit I now need to make a spindle sander for the drill press. That round thing is the wood plug from the test hole I drilled with the cheap hole saw that cut way over 52 mm. I’ll cut some more to make a drum sander…more to come on this.
