Winnebago – counter top rail

After a night of thunder and lighting plus a domestic disturbance across the (what was used to be a quiet) road that required police attendance it’s turned out to be a nice morning so it’s off to the workshop to do a wood job for family friends and their motorhome.

10I need to reproduce this counter top rail that will be fixed to the other side.

20This is what the profile looks like, it’s a job for a router.

On the table saw I ripped off a 50mm length from what was provided. We need to select a bit with the right profile,  a 22mm rounding over will be fine.

60Adjusting the bit depth so the shoulder only lightly cuts into the material.

70We need to radius one end, I could cut it on the 9” bandsaw but…

80…the disc sander will  be OK.
I used a metal washer to pencil the arc.

90We only have one lump of wood so no room for mistakes, better have a practice on a scrap piece of timber.

100Straight from the practice one to the job piece and do it, turn over and do the other side – done and looks OK.

120A bit of light sanding to finish this part and we can rip down to requested size height.

130ALDI Taurus table saw with a decent Irwin 40 tooth blade, adequate for my needs. We need to set width to 50mm.

Enough for now, time for lunch.
