14” Bandsaw – Upper wheel cover

We will make the wheel covers from thin MDF with pine frames.

A few weeks ago ran out of 3mm MDF, so made sure when I did do a Bunnings trip in the van for general stuff – to get some. Again using one of my favourite hand tools – the panel saw.

Measured up and cut a piece 42 x 25mm, then nailed on the top piece.
Did the same for the sides, bottom is open.

I used the smaller Ozito gun with brads. I also have two of the larger Ozito Brad Nailer & Stapler units; one for brads – one for nails. They are well made and great for heavier work like building outdoor stuff like chook and cat runs Smile

Right now the cover is just hanging there, while I’m thinking.

Lining up to put in the top hinge with the aid of quick clamps, and also checking from the back. Put in the centre screw of the top hinge and again check the alignment.
Did the same same for the bottom hinge and then put in the rest of the hinge screws.

Need to know where to drill the hole for the wheel shaft so dabbed a little sewing machine oil onto the shaft end – then closed the cover.

Shaft is 25mm so bored a 35mm hole with a Forstner bit – cover closes nicely.

Back tomorrow to make some sort of cover catch…
