After marking out carefully chisel out to recess the nut into the knob.

Epoxy in the nut, thread the rod in and clamp up with a nut on the other side – leave to set. Come back later to cut the rod to length and also epoxy that to the nut.

While waiting we can think about cutting out the ‘throat ‘ of that MDF board.
This is the open space between the saw table which sits over the lower wheel and the upper blade guides – with the blade arm raised to it’s highest cutting position.
