8” Bandsaw – Some updates

Having upgraded the bearings from Skateboard 608’s to 6200 2RS (30/10mm) I also now need to upsize the upper wheel mount block. As it turned out I ended up completely redesigning the upper wheel mount.

Here is the new wheel block, thickness has doubled from 34 to 68mm, the full depth of the frame which is made up of four 17mm Melamine panels.

The wheels (lower as well) now spin freely with no play on the larger bearings and the load is spread nicely across the fixed threaded rod shafts.

Here is the lower wheel waiting patiently to be mounted, the buggered skateboard bearings need to be pulled out and a 10mm drill run through for the larger shaft.

Wheels are mounted and checked for coplanar alignment. The motor has been brought forward and simply clamped for a test run.

Bringing the motor you can see here how nicely the footprint has been reduced.
