The Pod Project – 12

Erection Day !!!
Everyone arrived around 11.00AM and there was lots of chatter while the team mingled and we got ready to erect the pod.

First thing was to move aside and lean the roof against the lemon tree and the chook run. We then moved the heavy base onto the foundations and came back to move the roof over the base and lent it against the back fence positioned for the big lift later on onto the pod.

I did all the foundations myself with string lines, line levels and 4′ spirit level.

One of the team members brought along his 360° laser level seen here doing some final tweaks.

Randomly laying down some floor sheets so we have something to stand while putting up the walls.

With the back up we then did the pod front wall.

The front is up and this is the view from the kitchen window.

With the front done next up is the right side panel.

Getting the panels to sit down into the base channels is tricky, we had to use putty knives and a rubber mallet.

Nearly there.

Now we are doing the left panel.

More alignment fiddling and putting in the screws.

More screws…

Last bottom screw for this side panel.

Now for the most difficult part of the job, all 5 of us hoisting the roof up onto the top of pod. Two hoists… the first one up onto ladders (about half way) so we rest and prepare for the final hoist onto the pod – phew.

The right panel aligned OK but the left top front corner of this one refused to drop into the channel.

More fiddling with pushing from the back but still refused to drop into the channel.

We used a rope and a clamp to pull back the top of the side panel which did the trick.

We are done for today and after some chatting with drinks the erection team slowly disbanded. A couple of us will be back tomorrow to lay down the carpet tiles and refit all the power, network and lighting stuff.
