After pottering around in the workshop went out to start installing the chook door and then… the heat got to me!
Some readers are wondering why the chook door is not a coop door. Referring to my Ten Chook Commandants the first one reads:
Thou Shalt Not Allow Birds In Run.
This is why we have the annex, it acts as a (air lock) mite lock.
* When the girls are out the inside chook run door is closed – annex door open.
* When we leave home girls are put in with annex closed and run door open.
* At night both are closed.
When I go to let them out in the morning Ruby has (usually) laid her egg so off they go and I close the inside run door. We then watch them on the cameras and when it looks like Rosie wants in off I go to open the annex door but… she might not be ready so I have to wait or go back inside – and go outside again!
I am doing wi-fi chook doors to save tripping out there especially every morning and now can watch the girls while I have my morning coffee reading the news.
