DIY Garden Edging – part 1

This is the 3rd time I am replacing the ‘treated’ pine edging purchased from Bunnings.

1Back in 2019 council contractors cut down our lovely nature strip tree, apparently it was infected?

Just needed a spray on one branch.

2Had to wait 12 months for the replacement Acacia pendula or “Weeping Acacia” – it died. Had to wait another year for this the 2nd one
Anyway… my edging needs to be replaced – again.

Crikey prices have jumped – about 40%

This is the one I need and $37 bucks is too much. I know I have half round pine poles so let’s go find them and see if we can make our own.

3
Found 4 poles each about 1.2M in length. I need like 27 of them @ 150mm – total length?
27 x 0.15 = 4.05 metres so I have enough timber.

4
Much larger profile than the Rola Pak edging but that’s fine.

5
Setting up the 12″ mitre saw with a stop block at 150mm.

6
Ready to cut the first one.

7
Caution: With this setup after pushing the blade through let the saw come to rest before raising the blade or else the block could jam and kick out.

8
Looks like firewood Smile

9
One of the pine poles is a bit smaller in cross section so we have two sizes. Here the larger ones at the back. That’s fine we’ll stagger the smaller ones to create a rustic effect.

I need to make a jig to keep them in line when stapling as well as supporting and keep them level – thinking. Back soon…
