Scroll saw project – update 3

This will be a interesting session as we are going to mount the saw arm bearings and install the assembly onto the saw frame.

1
With the arm support column dismantled I marked out the bearing centres on the two supports in preparation to bore the bearing mount holes.

23
Here we are drilling the 9mm recessed holes with a 29mm hole saw. The bearings are 30mm OD. And now clean out the holes with a 25mm Forstner bit.

5
That’s a perfect squeeze fit, simply tap the bearing in flush with a scrap wood drift to protect the bearing.

6
Both column supports are done, now to reassemble onto the saw frame.

Before we install the saw arm this is a good time with the saw frame upside down to screw down the base.

Everything here is 10mm. Working from one side we have to feed the rod through while threading on nuts and washers in the correct order.

Finally with the are centered in the supports screw on the second lock nut with a tube spanner.
