Motion Activated Sprinkler

Our Chooks – Prowling Cat

We have a cat coming over the back fence stalking our chooks. I have put up some stop-gap wire and since then have not actually seen the bloody thing in the backyard. Still it’s a big worry so we need to do more to strengthen and monitor the perimeter:

1) Put up more fencing
2) Install CCTV cameras
3) Buy or make a Motion Activated Sprinkler

Cat comes along the fence by that shed and into our backyard. I have put up some wire to the big shrub on the left and since then have not actually seen the bloody thing in the backyard but I know it’s still prowling around, we need to do more to secure the perimeter.

Putting up more fence to the left, garden stakes and chicken wire – stapled down.

Next on the list is a DIY motion activated sprinkler.

And finally some CCTV cameras.

I just happen to have a spare 4 Camera CCTV DVR home security system that I’ve been meaning to setup to cover not just this area but the whole backyard.

All this for out backyard chooks !!!

Collecting the bits to make my own motion activated sprinkler, they cost between $100 & 200 bucks – ouch.

Bought a 24V AC irrigation solenoid from Masters today with a adaptor – to get started.

Went through the garage cupboards and we have enough to make a start, on the left a spare security sensor, sprinkler(s) from the garden shed and a multi tapped 15V – 30V transformer, one of the taps is 24V.

The other trannies can go back to the cupboard.
