Continuing on with making the spa cover I’ve reinforced the corners with paling off-cuts.

The whole thing now holds it’s shape quite well when picked up and moved around.

Cross supports for the shade mesh. The weather is hot so frequent visits to the rest area for shade and water.

Fortunately I have a full roll of commercial quality shade mesh at home in the garage so I cut off a length and brought that with me today.

Started off by clamping one side and stretching  directly across to the other side, do the same at 90° for the other two sides. Start stapling opposing sides making sure to pull down straight for even tension all the way around.

Would be nice to finish off around the sides to hide the folded over bit.

As before went for a walkabout to rummage through the rubbish piles all of which are destined for the big skip out on the driveway – to see what I can find. The old fence trellis caught my eye, I could pull that apart and pick out the best strips to trim the sides of the spa cover.

Staple down the middle of the top supporting batten. Now we can trim off the excess mesh with a sharp Stanley knife.

To fix the strips I used 20mm half crown staples with waterproof wool glue. Was going to use brad nails but they don’t have much holding power, and even less out in the weather.

That looks pretty good!
